i thought you might like to know.

a) As many of you will know from facebook, my first ever short story is now out! It's in the Woman's Weekly Fiction Special dated 21 May to 2 July, and it's the last story in the mag. I'll post a pic of it here as soon as I i) find my camera and ii) find the camera lead. I received my contributor's copy yesterday and am going to try and pick up a few extras for friends and family abroad who don't want to miss out on all the excitement :)

b) I heard yesterday that I'm a finalist with another (autobiographical) story! I sent a story off in August last year to a Cup of Comfort call for submissions. The deadline was extended a couple of times, and I assumed it was because they hadn't had many submissions - but apparently they got a lot of submissions (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say how many, but put it like this - I've done well to make it to the finals!). There are 63 finalists and 50 spots in the book and I think that if I'm successful I get paid $100, which would be just lovely.

c) If you were thinking that maybe all this has woken up my writing mojo, just a little, then you would be right. I haven't actually done any more writing yet, but I'm getting closer and closer.

oh, and:

PS I sent a story to People's Friend at the beginning of July last year. I've never heard anything. Should I chase it up?

Congratulations on your recent success in the writing world! I will read your story when it comes out here. I've heard via womagwriter's blog that People's Friend take their time and are very fussy and can be demanding, but great people and well worth the effort. Good luck with that one!

Congratulations. I think usually with People's Friend if they've kept something that long it's a good sign. They usually reject pretty quickly if they don't want something. I think Leigh had something accepted after quite a long wait, but I'm not sure exactly how long.

Congratulations, and good luck with the finals :))) Surely even if this only tempts you to write a little then it's a start? ;)
